The Strokes Pt. 1: The Sounds of Modern Rock n Roll

What’s up guys! Hope you are all doing well this week. Last week, I was talking about how concerts and festivals are starting to come back and just these past couple of weeks I got a notice about how the rap festival Rolling Loud will be taking place in Miami on July! That’s actually crazy how fast live music performances came, and I’m honestly happy to see that things are starting to go back to normal. The lineup for that festival is legit one of the craziest things I’ve seen given how many known rappers are going (including Bobby Shmurda). I’ve been seeing so many TikToks about how bad some people wanna go and to be honest, if you’re a huge rap fan and you have the opportunity to go, I say do it. I would however take precautions as this is one of the first festivals to come back after quarantine, so it may be chaotic. I would be careful with who you’re around as I’m sure there will be mor...

Young Thug's "Slime Language 2"

Hey guys! So this week I listened to the new Young Thug’s album “Slime Language 2” featuring everyone he has signed to his label YSL or Young Stoner Life. So that pretty much means that whole cover art is everyone he has signed to his label, and I’m honestly surprised because I didn’t realize so many people were signed. It’s definitely cool to see Young Thug put in a lot of effort giving the spotlight to other artists, and while this album wasn’t the best of his work, I can appreciate the energy he’s putting into the trap scene.                 Anywho let’s get straight to it. The album was pretty long if I can be honest. 23 songs going up to an hour and fifteen minutes, and while I do love hearing trap and some Thugger, I felt like this project was a bit too long. There was a lot repetition between songs in style and in terms of lyrical content, making it feel like the only difference was who was rappin...

BROCKHAMPTON'S "ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE"

What is up you beautiful people, I hope you are all having a great weekend! FINALLY, WE GET SOME NEW MUSIC! After this whole hiatus period from COVID, I’m actually starting to see some artists drop new music. However, I didn’t even have BROCKHAMPTON in mind when I was thinking about who would start dropping music again and boy am I not disappointed. I actually enjoyed their last project, “GINGER” quite a bit as it took a softer turn towards the attitude the group had after their falling out with ex-member Ameer Van and how individuals in the group were starting to look towards religion for answers. From that we come to this new project, “ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE” and boy do we get some goodness out of this.                 Upon starting the album, I was greeted with quite a few features from Danny Brown, JPEGMAFIA, A$AP ROCKY, and A$AP FERG. While I did enjoy these guests, I didn’t really get a...

Kanye West's "Graduation"

What is up everybody CAN I GET A WHOOT WHOOT?! No? Aight that’s fine. So here we are with the first week of April and I figured that today listen to one of the albums I’ve been wanting to listen to for a very long time: Kanye West’s “Graduation”. Now, before I get the “bro, how did it take you this long to listen to that album”, I say CALM DOWN. To explain this lack of focus, let’s go back to when I was a lil lad. So, I never listened to a lot of rap music that was circulating around the time I was going through school. I remember from middle school to early high school I would just listen to the popular Drake songs and maybe some of Bruno Mars’ classics. I never really had any tools to help me see what music was out there, so I just listened to whatever I found. By that I mean mostly 80s music and some Coldplay due to my mother’s fabulous music tastes. It was until I was in sophomore year ...
