Steven Wilson's "THE FUTURE BITES"

Good afternoon everyone! This is my third post on the blog, and I’m so excited to talk about this next album I listened to on Friday on stream. THE FUTURE BITES is an album coming from artist Steven Wilson, someone who I never listened to. Not knowing anything about him or this project, I decided to listen to the song that came out before the album “MAN OF THE PEOPLE”. Upon listening to this song, I realized that I was in for a treat with this album because the concept that was going to be covered in Wilson’s music would be great to analyze.                 Upon sitting down and playing the first song, I was welcomed with a great guitar solo that soon introduced a soundscape that brought out emotions based on the idea of isolation and abandonment. Wilson’s voice slowly comes in and from there, we have officially entered t...

Smino's "blkswn"

Bobby · Smino Stream What’s up guys! So on Tuesday, I decided to listen to an artist I’ve heard about for a while due to my friends. His name is Smino, and he’s a part of a trend of hip hop that I’ve noticed has taken a space in the rap atmosphere with its usage of funk, electro-beat, and chill hip hop beats. I didn’t listen Smino before, so it was something new to experience as I played his music. Upon listening to the starting track of his album “blkswn”, I knew this was going to be something different. Smino uses his opportunity to use his debut project as a chance to combine his identity and his unique sound he’s created. Songs like Glass Flow, B Role, and Amphetamine show his usage of calmer yet sophisticated rhymes as he talks about his complicated life surrounding maturity and substance abuse. One thing I personally enjoyed about Smino was his ability to experiment with his lyricism, having unique and fun word play with examples being “Edgar Allen Poe’D Up” and “Father Son Ho...

Hey guys, hope you are all doing well. This is officially my first blog post and I’m excited to share it with all of you. Like I talked about in my “About Me” page, the way I created the video attached to this post was through a Twitch stream where I listen to music I haven’t listened to before and give my take on it. Even though I don’t have any specific musical knowledge on the theory of how these songs were created, I believed that it would be interesting enough to talk about aspects of music that aren’t communicated enough such as concept albums, inspirations, and the ideas that come out of these individual projects.      I started off by listening to Lil Skies’ “The Life of a Dark Rose” due to his release of his most recent album “Unbothered” that came out this week. I figured that if I were to take a look at the concepts created in that album and how they relate to the artist, I should first see how he entered the rap scene with his debu...
